Counselling for adults in Worthing, West Sussex-with online and telephone counselling available nationwide.
Support that fits your life and your needs.
About Me
Hello. I’m Michelle - a client centred, compassionate counsellor based in Worthing, West Sussex. My path into counselling began long before my training. After facing a series of difficult life events, I found myself struggling with crippling anxiety and unhealthy coping patterns, that left me feeling overwhelmed and disconnected from the life I wanted to be living. The support I received during my time of need became the foundation of my passion for pursuing a career in counselling. These experiences shaped everything about the counsellor I am today. They gave me a deep appreciation for how hard life can get at times and how powerful it is to have someone walk alongside you, with understanding and respect. It also showed me that change IS possible - even when it feels out of reach - and that there is life, hope, and strength beyond emotional difficulties.
Welcome to Michelle King counselling. Many people seek counselling when life feels confusing, overwhelming or too much to carry alone. You might be feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, navigating a period of change, or finding it hard to manage day-to-day stresses.
Perhaps you’re facing the deep pain of bereavement and loss, or dealing with addiction - your own or a loved one’s - or feeling the strain of family conflicts.
I offer a grounded, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly, feel heard and explore what’s going on for you, at your own pace.
Together, we focus on what matters most to you, working gently toward greater clarity, balance and emotional ease.

How I can help
As an integratively trained counsellor, I draw on a variety of techniques tailored to your individual needs. My work is shaped by years of experience supporting people through anxiety, self-esteem and confidence issues, family conflict, bereavement and loss and addiction and recovery.
I bring empathy, lived-experience, and a down-to-earth style that helps people feel safe enough to explore what’s really going on beneath the surface.
Specialist Areas
Anxiety- Untangling constant worry, looping and racing thought patterns, being on edge, overwhelm, people pleasing.
Bereavement and loss- Space to process grief and everything that comes with it, without pressure, expectations, or timelines.
Family and relationship dynamics- Understanding patterns of behaviour, boundaries, and roles that no longer fit.
Low self worth and confidence- Gently reconnecting with your strengths and sense of self.
Addiction and Recovery- Compassionate support for cravings, shame, and relapse prevention.
Life changes and transitions- Support through breakups, illness, late adult ADHD and Autism diagnoses, redundancies, or times when you feel stuck or lost.
Counselling services and therapeutic styles
I offer individual counselling sessions to adults of all ages and young people. Being integratively trained, I can draw on a blend of therapeutic approaches to support your individual needs, including person-centred therapy, CBT, solution-focused brief therapy and compassion-focused therapy.
My approach is warm, steady, and down-to earth. I aim to create a space where you can talk openly, feel understood, and explore what’s going on for you, at a pace that feels manageable. I believe that healing takes place when we feel truly understood.
🌿Person Centred Therapy
Person-centred counselling is based on the belief that you are the expert in your own life. It offers a warm, non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace, supported by a genuine trusting therapeutic relationship.
🌞Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
Solution-focused brief therapy is a forward-looking approach that focuses on your strengths and the small steps that can move you toward the life you want. It looks at what’s already working and how you can build on your existing resources.
🌻Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
CBT looks at the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions. It can help you notice unhelpful patterns and gently experiment with new ways of responding to challenges. It is a practical, structured approach that supports you in developing tools to manage difficult emotions.
🌸Compassion-Focused Therapy
Compassion-focused therapy helps you develop a kinder, more understanding relationship with yourself. It is especially helpful if you tend to be self-critical or find it hard to feel deserving of care. It focuses on soothing the nervous system and building a sense of inner safety and warmth.
